Need MoBo for E8500 Wolfdale

I just tried to put an e8500 in my Asus T3-P5G965 barebones system. The fans run but it never POSTs. I'm assuming that the Wolfdale/E8500 isn't supported by that MoBo... but now I can't return the CPU so I want a recommendation for a MoBo that will support this chip. I'll just end up with a second PC, which is just fine.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good mid-priced MoBo for the 8500?

Thanks!

Don't know about the Shuttle but I'm running an e8500 on an Abit P35-e at 4GHz with current BIOS with no problems.

same here, running a 8400 on a P35 board, only thing is the P35 will not run memory or RAM at 1N or 1T ... for me anyways..

I am not so sure that DDR2-800 actually runs 1T. At least that's my experience with Nvidia 680i & P45.

The ASUS P5Q Pro should be a good & cheap overclocking board for a E8500.

Memory timings are overrated anyway. Top end CPU speed is most important for most applications.

Maybe a dumb question, but what the heck is 1N or 1T?

1N & 1T are the same; 1T was the old description for a command rate that you could do with your memory. On an AMD machine, the performance was very noticeable. I think it equated to something like 200 or 300 theoretical Mhz in a performance increase.

Gigabyte UD3P and never look back.

It has overclocking options through the roof. You wont be disappointed.

What stepping is your e8500? Don't know about other P35 boards, but newer E0 stepping will not work on Abit IP35 boards. Found this out after getting a new e8400.
Something to watch out for.

asus p5q-PRO p45 board is a popular choice as well. probably one of the highest selling motherboards on newegg right now to boot, with a ton of good reviews. cant go wrong there, unless the board is DOA

Another vote for the P5Q Pro. I got mine about 2 months ago on 'Egg for $120. I don't really recommend spending less than $120ish on a motherboard, unless you are going for an extreme-budget build, they usually cut too many corners. P5Q Pro has 100% Japanese caps, passive heat-pipe cooling, has about everything you would need (2x PCIe x16, SATA/RAID, tons of USB and firewire, SPDIF audio, gigabit lan) and is very overclockable.

There was a combo of the P5Q Pro AND 2 Gigs of OCZ DDR2 memory 2-3 weeks ago for $86. So a specific price point isn't necessarily a deciding factor for a good motherboard.
