I'm ordering a new midrange video card for my brother's pc today, but i'm not completely sure what to get.

He doesn't want to spend a lot, so the 8800GT, GTS, and 3870 are out of the question.

Unfortunately, the 8800GT 256MB card is still overpriced and out of stock.

I can get an MSI ATI 3850 256MB OC card for $170. Is there really a better bargain than this card for the price?

I appreciate the feedback so i can order this afternoon :)

btw. He'll be playing COD4 mostly at 1024x768 on a CRT.

even at higher resolutions the 3850 is a good card... it's actually a lot better than people give it credit for..

That card may be overkill for that resolution. :p

Have fun with that card - sounds like a weeeener!

Lol, thanks zap, and he has a 19" crt, so he can do higher, just wanted to make sure i got him a card that can do high detail settings at a minimum of 1024x768.

Card is ordered, i'm sure he'll be happy. It'll be paired with 2GB of DDR2 and a Core2Duo 2GHz.

:)
