Need Microsoft Office....is this place legit?

I need to buy Microsoft Office Home and Student for my daughter in Italy. I stumbled upon this place by accident but the prices looked too good to be true so I'm reluctant. Has anybody heard of this company linked below and are they legit?

The other thing is I heard Microsoft is coming out with a new Office 2013 Suite. Should I wait for that or will the old 2010 version still be compatible? I had an older version of Excel and it wouldn't open up the newer version spreadsheets as I recall.

Save your money and go to Pirate Bay. It's just as legitimate. If you're on a tight budget(or even if you're not), LibreOffice is both libre, and gratis.

Just as a general rule, if you have to ask if a place is legit, it's probably not.

Microsoft sets pretty hard limits on the price of its software, so if you see some place selling it for significantly less, then you should be skeptical, and you should probably assume it's not legit.

I did an online chat with their sales rep. They claim they are a distribution company for older Microsoft software. They can sell it cheaper because Microsoft is trying to get rid of the old software before the new 2013 versions of Office hit the market soon.

I guess my first question would be why doesn't Microsoft sell it themselves why do they need a third party to sell their software for them at a lower price than they themselves are selling it for. Just smells wrong to me and if nobody else heard of them that's a pretty good indication they are illegal.

MS doesn't discount old software. It costs the same as their new products. That site is complete BS.

My vote is thrown in with libre office. Abiword is another handy application if the primary need is text. Office aims at filling every need for desktop publishing, and fails badly at much of it.

Well actually my daughter needs Microsoft Powerpoint for her presentations to the class that is why I need MS Office.

I use LibreOffice in the office environment. Because it's "Libre" and all of that stuff. But I do find it inferior to Microsoft Office, both in raw speed and compatibility (often I open documents that are not correctly displayed). If you can get the license, MS Office is the preferable option, in my opinion. For simple things and if you are not too picky (I am), LibreOffice is great, however.

Have you checked with your daughter's school? You didn't mention if this was High School or College. College's usually sell Office through their bookstores for a cheaper rate then direct from Microsoft.

She just moved to Italy as an elementary school teacher at a private school in Milan. I really don't know what is available to her or not yet. It's a learning experience for both of us with a new country at the moment. One thing we do know is their school is far advanced technologically from any equivalent school in the states. I was just being proactive as a dad...🙂

It also appears, LibreOffice is heavily dependent on Java (which I hate). I removed the virtual machine and now can't save any document. Grrrrr....
