had corsair value ram (2x512).looking for a decent replacement for a 1gb kit... have the dfi ultra -d mobo. looking for reliability, and moderate overclocking (nothing higher than say 215 fsb).

recommendations?

I will NOT be buying any CORSAIR VALUE RAM!

Some cheap Kingmax for $90, or maybe for $110-120 there's some Twinmos and G.skill that are even better (CL2 latencies or pretty good chips; IIRC)

So it dropped in price since I last looked at this stuff. Coolness. Jump on it.

I am now a firm believer that corsair value ram is not cooperative with the DFI Lanparty Ultra -D motherboard.. either I got some bad ram, or the settings are off...but I cannot get the corsair to run memtest without errors...

You can RMA that to Corsair I bet. They also have an active support forum off of their website.

The Twinmos is the best bang for your buck IMO since it overclocks pretty well. I've seen FSB ~265 2-2-2-6 @ 3.6Vdimm

I could go with the Twinmos and run it at higher voltages, or I could get the G.Skill and run it at default voltage.

It kinda scares me to run memory at 3.6v though, thats pretty high... one question though..

it has been said that if you fill all 4 slots on the dfi mobo with double sided memory it will downclock to ddr 333...what if you run (2x512mb) double sided, and 2x256mb single sided? Does it still downclock to ddr 333?

so I guess my options are now

G.Skill 1GB kit for $103 shipped

or

Two of These TwinMos Sticks at Higher Voltage...

from these two choices what does everyone suggest?

Did you update the BIOS? Early Ultra-Ds and SLI-Ds do not like Corsairs VS, but the later ones are fine.

As for 4 sticks going down to DDR333, that's as per the DDR400 spec (1 DIMM per channel), though how they are run depends on the memory controller, which is on-die in an A64, so it's a limitation of your CPU.

Yeah the DFi is very picky about the RAM you use with it. I would suggest finding out what brands are compatible on their webiste & going from there. That said, I would probably get the G.Skill before I would get the TwinMos....but that's only if they are both compatible.

The Twinmoss is prolly better if you are going to feed it over 3.2 volts, but below that stick w/ the Gskill and for everyday use I'd prolly go w/ the GSkill because it doesn't need insane voltages and active cooling to still perform well.
