my buddy sent me this email. I don't know how to help. Can you guys offer any suggestions?

I need some help. My ex's baby brother suddenly passed away on friday from something that has still yet to be determined. The family contacted me wanting to know how to set up a Livejournal community so that all his friends and family could post their memories of him and talk about what happened. I told them this might not be the best idea as it would be open to everyone on the internet.

I was wondering if there was a way that we could set up a message board for him (kind of like a forum, or a xanga or livejournal) that would be password protected. Where would the bandwith have to come from? How did you guy's host yours? Are there free services out there?
