I/we have 2 test drive cards from Ford (via HD) that total $150.

Am planning on building a system that will have a AMD 1600 or 1700 CPU (seems best bang for the buck - no OC being done)

I can get a MB/CPU/Fan combo for $94+ on pricewatch.

NewEgg has refurbs on MB that can save $20+.

Should I grab a NewEgg refurb or get a combo?

Memory I can get via HD with no problem.

Case, drives and other items already exist in my misc bin.

Before you purchase from any vendor, you should check out their user rating. Anandtech has one on the main page, and Resellerratings.com is another popular site.

If you're satisified that the vendor is safe to deal with, then go ahead and buy the combo. Just personally, I am not comfortable with refurbished items. You might want to find out what the general opinion of the MB is that you are buying also. HTH. Peace.

Thanks

Based on threads and comments over time, I would only take a refurb from Newegg and then it would depend on the MB itself.
