i need a gpu - low power/low heat for a home server

currently have an old voodoo 3000 pci card in there and it puts off a ton of heat, so i would like to swap out to a cooler card.

pci / pci-e is ok. needs to do 1920x1200, that is all - no gaming - running xp pro - no special desktop/background

Basically go for the lowest end of the low end and you should be fine. I was going to suggest finding an old PCI card like an S3 Virge, but not sure those can do the widescreen resolutions.

i've gotta think even the low end (7200gs, fx5200, 3450) might use more power than a voodoo3. yeah, it's old, but it still uses passive cooling and draws fairly little power. we're talking about a tnt2 competitor here.

i was wondering that too, but the amount of heat it puts off is crazy. it is passively cooled, but man, it sure gets hot and wasn't sure if a new card would actually draw less power

I got a 4350 for a home computer awhile ago and it's a great little card. I don't know how much functionality you want, but it has DVI, VGA, and HDMI onboard and I think has a TDP of <25W. I got it for $25 shipped from a newegg deal. Here's the current deal they have - http://www.newegg.com/Product/...IGABYTE+GV-R435OC-512I , although this one is actively cooled as opposed to the passive one I got.
