Need low-cost small-business printer

I work at a family dental practice and our printer is on the fritz. We have a Brother MFC-9840CDW (color laser printer with wifi) and recently it has started to make loud clunking noises and making a mess of anything we try to print. I'm not very printer-savvy and don't know if it's an easy repair or not worth the time and effort.

I was tasked with finding a replacement, something with wifi that can print color, scan / copy / fax and is relatively cheap to maintain. Are laser printers still cheaper when it comes to replacing cartridges, and are they more reliable? What should I be looking at?

I recently got the Brother MFC-9970CDW. It's a workhorse (and a large one at that). Got a great deal on it on Amazon.

Looks great. I've been searching on and off today and came up with these:

Samsung CLX-4195FW

Dell also has a few decent looking printers.

I think we can live with no wifi support.


I'm having some difficulty finding realistic estimates on what the avg. price per page is for these printers though.

Ended up going with the Brother (after doing some extensive shopping and research). Thanks for the advice!
