the problem next is, when I try to go into linux, all I get is a logon prompt for my cable i nternet DHCP server.. I can login as root and get this stupid little hyper terminal thing that says ROOT>

but then im screwed.

I really need help sorry for the lack of detail, I dont know what info you need. Just ask an dill tell

If you need to get to XP, you will need to boot your XP CD, and select Repair. This will search for your XP installation, and reset Windows BootLoader to boot XP. BUT, make sure you create a Linux bootdisk first, so you can get back to your redhat system later.....

After that, there is a FAQ around here on how to dual boot a linux/Win 2K system. This applies to XP as well. My preference is to use NT's bootloader to point to Linux LILO, and then boot linux. It is possible to boot to LILO and have it point to NT's bootloader.....

Once you boot to the C: Prompt on the CD, then I think you can type 'fixboot', and that will restore your XP boot up option. Next time your rescue setup boots, watch the messages, and see where the system places the RAM disk that it unpacks all the rescue commands to. Or watch the messages, because there should be some help there for what you can do from the rescue prompt.
