Need Lightweight Bassoon Case Idea

My 13 year daughter old plays the bassoon, & weighs about 80 lbs, her bassoon & case weighs about 25 lbs & is a headache for her to manage, on & off the bus etc...

The bulk of the weight/mass comes from the case, any of you all have any good ideas about where to pick up a lightweight case to transport this thing with & still protect it? The largest part is appx 24" long, 4" in diameter and it breaks down into 3 similar sized pieces.

If I can come up with an inexpensive aluminum or plastic case, I can trim foam for a custom fit. Any good ideas?

they don't make gig bags for bassoons i guess

shes probably running around with a wood case, eh?

Not sure if they make them for bassoon, but a friend from college has a tuxedo bag for his trumpet. I can't get the page for Brook Mays music to load, but you might use the word tuxedo to narrow your search a little bit. Good luck, and tell you daughter to stay with the instrument.. music paid most of my way through college.

On the lighter side, we always called the bassoon the Burping Bedpost... to everyone, that is, except the extremely beautiful and talented red-headed bassoon player.

The ProTec case should work great. Any decent B&M should give you ~15 to 20% off the retail price ($159.00 down to around $130). If you live in the Puget Sound area, I can hook you up, give you a chance to try a few different styles.
