need legal advice

I got really drunk last weekend at an off campus house party. I left the party (I dont remember leaving or anything after that.) But what I did was walk into my colleges health center in my drunken state thinking it was my dorm (my dorm and the health center are next door to eachother). The lady there could see I was drunk, and she got worried when i could not remember her name (bad short term memory), so she sent me to the main hospital in the city. My BAC was .2 (illegal of course, but not particularly dangerous).

I just got a letter saying im on probation (meaning i cant get in trouble again), and that i have to have a meeting with my dorm administrator in which i will call my parents and inform them of what happened.

BUT, according to the health center policy, all interactions at the health center are confidential by law. And that the health center cannot tell my parents anything regarding my medical history. The letter says if i dont meet these requirements (calling my parents and attending a drug meeting) the sanctions may be increased. Is it legal for them to threaten me with higher sanctions if i dont tell my parents?

I'm not interested in anything but weather or not you think its legal for the school to make me inform my parents about my hospital visit. It might be legal because i do have a choice, i can not tell my parents and get kicked out of the school... but thats not really much of a choice. What do you think?

How the hell did you think the health center was your dorm? Big deal theyre right next to each other.

Lol you do have a point about the health center being confidenitial but I don't know if that applies to walking in drunk. I would go ask the student osbourn or something.

Sh!t, you lucked out. When I was 19 or so I got extremely drunk in my dorm, and when I started puking somebody got scared that there might be more than alcohol involved (it was 1977), and I ended up being taken to the campus health center, who said they didn't have the facilities to determine what I had consumed, soo they sent me to the hospital. I should have woke up the next morning with a bad hangover, but instead I was in a ward with tubes in me and they were giving me the psych eval to see if I was a suicide. My parents had been called in the middle of the night.

But your school rules may tip the balance in terms of just plain legal rights in your case. On the other hand, it might just be a bluff to get you to tell your parents yourself.

I believe if your parents pay for your stay in college they're to be somehow informed that their money is being spent on this kind of behavior.
