need laptop to work and support family

Hi, I'm on a tight budget and am trying to find a laptop with the most bang for the buck. My budget for the laptop is $1000 (give or take a few dollars) and it will be for web design/development. I already have a good desktop pc, but am often traveling.

Does anyone know of any deals on a good laptop that would be up for the task of running graphics programs like photoshop and afterEffects, as well as 3d modeling programs, etc? I'd need atleast a gig of ram (preferably 2), much HD space and good processing power. I think a 15.4" screen would suffice, but 17" would likely be better since the programs I use have so many tool bars.

Thanks for all your replies! I really appreciate it.

17" and travelling a lot? Doesn't sound like a good combo.

What kind of 3D modeling are you doing? Throwing 3D modeling into the mix really complicates things, especially at one grand.

Well, I should have clarified "traveling". Basically I just meant going a few hours outside of town once a month by car. I don't mind an 8lb laptop with big screen. The 3D software will be more on the light side, such as Swift3D. But since I don't know much about which laptops are good and which have bad reputations, I'm just looking for any guidance. I also need a laptop with decent battery life. I was thinking about this one but someone said the batt. life is not great. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp...cat01174&type=product&id=1157067574621

Thanks. Rick.
