Need laptop to fit these parameters

1. Under $900

2. Dedicated 3D graphics unit

3. Intel CPU ... Maybe an Intel Core 2 Duo (Wolfdale) variety E8xxx or E7xxx ... or maybe a Core i5 Lynnfield? I do not at all want a Centrino or Pentium or an SiS or an AMD.

4. No less than 15" screen

5. Mostly used for web browsing, instant messager, games like WoW or 2nd Life, movies, music, and word processing.

6. Portability and Battery Life a very minimal factor.

This will be for my daughter who is turning 10 years old soon.

You might want to look into Lenovo or Dell, with Accidental Damage Coverage since your daughter is 10 it is almost certainly inevitable that a spill or drop will happen. It happens to even the most cautious of people.

It's a tad over your budget but the components are very good and Asus's laptop reliability ratings are excellent.

This one could also fit your needs, at a lower price.

The video card on that one is middle of the pack but aside from that, it's a solid laptop.

We're getting my son an Ipod touch. scared enough for that.

I agree. I'd look at an AMD. They have better Dedicated 3D graphics units for far less. I'd look at something like this Compaq.
