I have a 350c thinkpad and it has a memory AND resume battery what does the resume bat. do and if it is dead how will I know also the internal mouse has died what would cause this and how do I go about fixing it?

Try re-installing trackpoint drivers (that's how the internal mouse is called), try reseting BIOS, if it's really dead you can only replace it with the keyboard as they are one part.

I'm not sure what do you mean when you say "resume" battery; there's a battery and there's a CMOS battery; if the CMOS bat. is dead it will ask you for date and time every time you boot.

well as a matter of fact every time I unplug it from the wall it asks for the time and date but I have the battery for the laptop itself and I have a battery about the size of a nickle and a battery that is like half a pencil and I get the error about the mouse at start up after the memory is done counting not in windows so if it is dead I need to have the whole keyboard replaced? .... thanks for you time

If you get the trackpoint error before windows statrs it's most likely dead.
I'm not sure what your cillinder shaped battery is, but I'd start by replacing the CMOS battery. Good luck
