can somebody recommend me a laptop that would last at least another 4 years throughout college, trying to keep the budget around $1400. This notebook would be used all the time because i will not have a pc with me.

You can get a nicely configured Dell for about $1400 with a 3-year warranty (highly recommended).

Go with Dell and pay for the extended warranty, 3 years or so. Dell is really great in terms of support, warranty and replacement!

If you have a Dell store at a mall nearby, take a look at the notebooks and choose a model you like. You have to base your decision on your needs. I personally wouldn't buy a big, bulky wide screen notebook if I am to be carrying it around. Not too powerful either because it would kill the battery very fast and it would overheat or have a very loud and annoying fan spinning all the time.
Base it on your needs!

Check with the college you are planning on attending first. Many colleges work with a specific vendor like Lenovo, Dell, or HP, to offer students notebooks that come bundled with extras under the manufacturer's discount education prices... and they typically up the warranty to four years and the college services them onsite for quicker turn around.

I'd look at THinkPad first, then Dell/HP if they don't have a laptop program at the school.

If you dont need games/graphics at ALL, then look to one of laptopsinc.com models. Their inhouse brand as well as the fujitsu's they carry are fantastic. I went with a fujitsu over a year ago and its running well and looks wonderful. I only wish I purchased their branded laptop and gotten more features!
