I have a chance to purchase a factory refurbed Compaq Presario 1200Z running an Athlon 4 1.0 gHz. for approx. $600 US. This seems like a ridiculously low price to me. What am I missing here? Are there any restrictions on laptops regarding Win2k installation? (It comes with ME 🙁)

If you get to see it before hand i would do it, If not i am not sure I would do it. Does that include HD and everything. I dont know about the winodws 2k thing but I would imagine it would work

Check the Compaq website and see if they have drivers for W2K. Some manufacturers don't have em for their lower end systems. If they have drivers, should work.

There is the potential for Win2k issues with laptops, albeit mostly for older systems by now. I would at least check the driver support and get some user comments (do a deja news search) before attempting a purchase.

I'd buy it for $600. WIn2k should work just fine, but you'll probably be on your own as far as drivers. Compaq sucks for OS support. Just go to each components mfr site and get the drivers if needed.
