Hi!

I'm currently on the loooooooong waiting list for a Radeon 8500 with the Dell deal. I'm thinking of cancelling it and buying another video card that would be less expensive (buying a house in 3 weeks...).

I was looking at the Hercules 4500 (Kyro-II) but I'm wondering if I'll really see an improvement over my TNT2-Ultra. Anyone here made the switch from a TNT2-Ultra to a Kyro-II ?? Did you notice a big improvement? (speed and image quality)

(I'll be playing some old games, like Colin McRae 2, but also some new games: Max Payne, Operation Flashpoint, ...). Resolution will be 1024x768 or 1280x1024 (I've got a 17inch Viewsonic).

Thanks!!

At those resolutions you'll notice a huge difference in speed especially if you usually use 32bit. On the other hand if you've been using 16bit on your Ultra then going to Kyro II and using 16bit you'll notice quite a large speed increase and an even bigger image quality increase (Kyro's 16bit is lightyears ahead of the Ultra's), but then with Kyro II you can use 32bit with virtually no performance hit anyway. I'd say save even more money and get an Inno3D or Apollo Kyro II 64mb which are just the same as the Hercules Kyro II (you can find them on pricewatch.com for as low as $64).
