I want to purchase a laptop in the US before I move to Austrailia. I have to stick to major brands (even though I dont want to) due to internatioal service policys. One of my main concerns is the diffrences in electrical frequncies (v & hz), power adapters, and dvd playback. If anyone has moved to another country from the US, or travels internationally with their Us configured laptop can help me with any advice it would be much appreiciated.
thanks

I had a Dell laptop bought in USA, and got it shipped to India....

The warranty transferred to India, no problems.

As far as i know, the power adapters will work anywhere..... It works fine in India.

From Mexico.

Bought 4 laptops in the USA (Presario 1200 XL-119, Uniwill N251C2 as micronote pro 530, Presario 2100Z and my latest toy, a gorgeous eMachines M6805)

Voltage is the same down here (110 V, 60 Hz). DVDs are region 4 (stupid if you ask me, we should be region 1) but the majority of the DVD players sold here are multiregion. As far as DVD, they play fine.... your drive has 5 changes before resetting, and I usually upgrade the firmware before the 5 times are done ;)

IBM has worldwide warranty, and make good machines (just an ill-conceiled hint ;)

Don't worry about DVD playback.. just get a program like DVD RegionFree - it sits in your systemtray, and lets you play every region, without decreasing the region counter....
