I've been using a Golden Orb with my celeron fine for a few months, but I changed to a different celeron a couple weeks ago. I didn't bother to try putting new thermal grease on(there was still "some" left on the surface of the golden orb:)), but its been running pretty hot today especially(the 60 degrees warning for the mobo monitor keeps popping up every few seconds).

So I figure its time to use some thermal grease, I have the Chemtronics stuff, how much should I use and how should I apply it? Thanks.

Clean all the old compound off your die and HS with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth rag. Apply a small dab of the new stuff directly on your CPU (and only your CPU). Spread it thinly and evenly using a razor blade, taking care not to scratch the CPU. It's better to start with too little than too much, but don't continue until you have an even coating. Then when you go to mount the HS, be sure not to slide it around because that will cause peaks and valleys to form in the compound, reducing its effectiveness.

Ok, thanks. I suddenly realized that my cpu's fan wasn't on for some reason, but it worked fine after rebooting(so now its at the more reasonable level of 40 degrees max). That better thermal grease job should help though.
