Hi guys, I am new to this forum. I lost track with pc stuff for quite a while, the last one I built was AMD XP and it was 2 yrs ago. It's time for me to get new gaming pc. I think Athlon 64 is cool and most of elites here recommanded Athlon 64 CPU. After some research, here is what I came up with. I would really appreciate your opinions.

1) ASUS "K8V SE Deluxe" K8T800
2) Athlon 64 3200+ Newcastle Core (heard retail is quite noisy, how true is this? might get zalman fan, not sure)
3) KingMax PC3200 (2x512)
4) ATI 9800 Pro
5) Audigy2 ZS "SB0350"
6) Logitech Z-5500
7) Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB Model# 6B200P0
8) PHILIPS 190S5FB 19" LCD Monitor
9) Thermaltake VA3000 Dream Tower Tsunami

I am not sure above list is a good package. I meant these parts match good value to each other especially CPU, MOBO, Memory, graphic card, sound card and speakers.

I had TDK CD writer and Toshiba DVD rom from my previous system. I can just get a regular CD Rom and swap them to my new pc.

Please give me opinions.

I will give myself another a week or so to get feedbacks before I pull out my credit card. And if you have parts for sale as I have above which are in good conditions, please feel free to PM me. I don't mind to get a used parts as long as they work like new while package has been opened....

I would recommend looking at the socket 939 platform, not the soon-extinct socket 754.

I have the same motherboard as you picked, & i would recommend staying far away from it, as it has no AGP/PCI lock, which basically means no overclocking. Granted, if you do not want to OC, it's not bad, though i would still get an nForce 3 over VIA chipsets.

The video card you have there is quite weak by today's standards. 6800 GT or at least 6600 GT is the recommended card around here.

If you wish to keep upgrading this system you are going to build, look for the nForce 4 motherboards with PCI-e instead of AGP, since AGP will be phased out over the next few years.

My recommendations:

939 mobo with PCI-e (Chaintech has one out that seems to be good value)
939 A64 3200+ or better if you do not plan to OC.

If you do want to OC, then better RAM like DDR500 would be a not bad idea, though you could also just run a divider with that PC3200 if you wanted with a very small performance hit.

Better video card, such as 6800 GT or 6600 GT if budget is a concern.

1) ASUS "K8V SE Deluxe" K8T800

Get socket 939 MSI K8n neo2 platinum

2) Athlon 64 3200+ Newcastle Core (heard retail is quite noisy, how true is this? might get zalman fan, not sure)

Get socket 939. The retail HSF is not that loud but if you are overclocking I ould suggest soemthing else

3) KingMax PC3200 (2x512)

Get Corsair Value Select

4) ATI 9800 Pro

I would suggest a 6600GT which would perform a little better

5) Audigy2 ZS "SB0350"

Can't you use onboard sound?

6) Logitech Z-5500

Good

7) Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB Model# 6B200P0

Get a Seagate

8) PHILIPS 190S5FB 19" LCD Monitor

Might want to go CRT

9) Thermaltake VA3000 Dream Tower Tsunami

Good choice.

PCIe is too expensive to be worth it right now, in my opinion. There are still plenty of AGP options, and a market for AGP cards will still remain for a while.

While socket 754 isn't "soon extinct," socket 939 is definitely a better platform for gaming, if only for dual channel memory. The MSI board is a good option, but you could also go with the Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra 939 if you want to save some money, or the Epox 9NDA3+ if you're looking to overclock.

The system you posted is going to be bottlenecked by that video card. I'd go with at least an nVidia 6600 GT-based card, or a 6800-based card if you can spend the extra money. I'd also go with a more reputable brand of memory, such as Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, or Mushkin. CRT is usually a better choice for gaming, but I've never noticed any ghosting in my Samsung 170N, which has a horrendous response time of 25ms.

Other than that, the system looks good.
