I live in Florida. I've been asking my one local friend who has a bike about what he did to get him going.... didn't get much help from him since he and all my other biker friends got their licences like 10+ years ago.

I am assuming these days that it is easier in FL to get a moto license than other states. They are super leniant here in Gainesville. They let kids drive scooters anywhere but the highway without a helmet or license (not even drivers license).

Looks like a good bike, I had an old Yamaha 650 Special as one of my first bikes and it was a good bike. BTW the price looks good.

I saw the KBB value, and it's high. The NADA site doesn't even go back to 83. The bike is nearly 25 years old. In bike years, that's frickin old, dude. The paint, the lowered suspension, the foam filters, etc., do nothing for the value.

Not saying it's a bad bike. The XJ650 Seca/Maxim were solid. Just saying I wouldn't pay more than $700 for a UJM that's nearly a quarter-century old, unless it had some kind of collector value, which a Maxim doesn't.

And the low is $250.

So I'm guessing that was a 'no' on the Hayabusa?

I've been wanting a bike for a while and I found what appears to be a really good deal on a 1982 Honda CM450 Custom.

The guy wants $650 for it, it's pretty close to me too. I'm REALLY tempted. I emailed him for more pictures and I may go check it out tomorrow. It's got 42k miles, which worries me a little (and is why the price is so low).

We've only got about a month of decent riding weather left here, plus I have no gear besides a helmet and gloves, and I haven't even taken the MSF yet. Still, part of me wants to buy it because it seems like a good deal and I've got $600 that I could throw at it right now.

When your looking at a 20+ year old bike book doesn't really matter it's all about the condition and as far as 19k miles on a bike that's nothing, I see them with 50k all the time.

As I said above, 19K is not that much. It's not the mileage. The bike is nothing special, and isn't worth $1100.

What are you going to get for $1100 that is special?

Dude, you're completely missing my point (which is pretty simple, btw), but fvck it, it's the OP's money. If he's willing to give $1100 for it, then fine. If he's happy with it, then fine. More power to him. I wouldn't pay that for it, but whatever. Maybe if it was bone stock and cherry, and I was really looking for a Maxim (which I wouldn't be). I think the OP should be able to find something newer, better, etc. for that money, but if he digs on this bike, that's all that really matters.

The OP stated "opinions welcome", and that's mine, and it's backed up by eleven years working at a Yamaha dealer. I saw bikes like that almost every day. They weren't worth $1100 then, and they aren't now, TO ME.

You guys are making me weary on buying the bike! :/

I have yet to see it, but if the seller is correct and the bike IS what I hope it is... I think $1100 for an excellent condition bike is worth it. Like I said, I love cruisers and just want a bike for college transportation. I will probably put 50 or so miles on it a week.

But I won't be a sucker and do take all your opinions into account.... I'll keep you all updated come sunday when I head to jacksonville.
