Need input on deleted Google account

Google recently realized that my sons account did not follow their terms of service since he was not 13 years old yet. They deactivated his account and stated that after 30 days his account would be deleted if he did not prove he was older than 13. Since his username is very unique my plan is to let them delete it and then in a year when he turns 13 reapply for it. My question is if his account is deleted will that same username be available a year from now or will it always show as a username that is in use even though it's for a deleted account?

While I understand Google has to do this to meet certain requirements I sure wish they would allow an option where parents could vouch for their child's use when they're under 13. The strange thing is Google is used for his school email address which is how I believe they figured it out.

Dunno, but now's a good time to get your son out of Google's clutches, and get him an account from someone that doesn't monitor everything he does. The problem here is Google knew your son's age without him explicitly telling them. Try openmailbox, and you might want to contribute a couple dollars if you appreciate them not getting into your business.

Those are very valid points. But at this point I just need to figure out if I should state he's over the age of 13 or wait until he turns 13 (less than a year) and hope this username has become available again.

openmailbox is awesome, thats what i use now. the only downside is that they are often down and you cant access email for days at a time

Just tell them its your account. Problem solved.

If thats the case the word you are looking for is AWFUL not awesome.

they claim theyre fixing it so it may not be a long term problem, i just started using them. theyre one of the few (only?) email services that doesnt require another email account or mobile number (even yahoo requires this now i think) and they let you choose whatever password you want, so it doesnt have to be something ridiculous you wont remember. they awesome compared to the alternatives

Well I just found my answer. After an account has been deleted it's DOA forever...and it's been more than 30 days. So that's that.
