Need info on video card comparison...

I need some information on video cards. I'm currently RMA'ing my XFX video card and I don't see any of this same kind for sale anymore. Now, I see in the information about RMA'ing that if they replace it for me they will give me one of the same performance or better. Mine is an XFX 8600 GT XXX version :

I only see XFX 9 Series for sale now, I am hoping I get at least an XFX 9500 GT cause this 9400 GT just doesn't seem of equal performance to me due to slower clock speeds and GDDR2 memory type :

Am I wrong or is that 9400 GT actually better than mine?

And just so you know, my 8600 GT XXX has 3 blown capacitors but was somehow still working, I now installed an older XFX 7600 GT XXX while I wait for my replacement. You can see the damage here :

9500gt would be closest but it uses ddr2 where the 8600gt was ddr3. 9400 would be a definate downgrade, 9600gt or gso would be an upgrade.

just because 8x cards aren't sold retail anymore doesn't necessarily mean you'll get a 9x.

Think they have some in a warehouse just for this situation? 😛 Sucks for me I guess but I better not get screwed with a downgrade they consider of equal performance.

Yeh, the 9500GT is basically the same chip as the 8600GT, although I believe there are a few tweaks. I'm sure the 8600GT you owned, though, probably had a much lower memory speed than the one on that 9500GT. You could probably overclock that core and basically get beyond 8600GTS speeds.

It's a die shrunk 8600GT with double the vram and at higher ram speed. It's the same core so you could probably clock it to at least 650 no problemo and have a card a good deal faster

This is crazy! I had 3 capacitors blow on the exact same card about 4 days ago! I heard a pop come from around my case and wasn't sure what it was and the system kept working until I tried to turn it on the next day. My situation is a little different, however, because I was running 2 identical cards in SLI. If XFX replaces the one card with a slightly better one then I am still at a performance loss without the SLI. I have already submitted a ticket and am waiting for a response. If I am offered the same 9500gt as was above I think I will ask to have both cards replaced with the same model...
