Need info on software for webcams

I'd like information on software that can be easily used behind a router but is not a chat software. This is for a school that needs to have a student hookup with a classroom. Of course, the school would like it to be "free" and currently uses netmeeting. (The student's home network won't work with Netmeeting, though.)

You could use openvpn or any other decent free VPN to make netmeeting work over the VPN.

As for other such software, ekiga is one free option. Check that out.

I'm a little confused about your stipulation that it not be "chat" software.. since netmeeting does video, text chat, shared whiteboard, and all the normal sorts of instant messenger things.

Obviously yahoo, MSN, skype, AIM all do webcam based IM. Paltalk, Stickam, Camfrog, et.al.

There are a ton of free webcam / video conferencing applicacions.. search for webcam or videoconference on sourceforge.net for some of the free applications.

The stipulation about the chat is the school's demand since they do not allow chat software because of the students. They aren't considering that a savvy student could potentially use netmeeting to chat, but this is their demand. So programs like Skype, MSN, AIM, etc., are ruled out.

In all honesty, they could be forced to pay for something if that is all we can find. I'm sure they'll bulk at something high priced, though.
