I might purchase a compag lte 5300 from another member on this forum but would to know about upgrading memory issues. where can i find pcmcia memory and how much does it run? what about just upgrading the memory on the laptop, the owner said it came with 16, and he upgraded with another 16 stick. i'd have to replace that stick if i wanted to upgrade, how much would that run and what kind of ram is it? i thought laptop ram was all SODIMM but it might be EDO? Here is an old review I found of it Laptop Review

so basically i want to know what my upgrade options are, and how much that will run. Thanks for the info guys.

Hi,

You might give this a shot. You can type in your serial number or use the auto-detect feature. If you scrounge around on the support site you might find the manual in downloadable form. I hope you'll be able to find out a lot of stuff, like what kind of PC Card slots it uses (pcmcia or cardbus) as well as info on memory type.

Laptops / notebooks used to be highly proprietary with respect to stuff like memory format. The proprietary stuff can be pretty steep!

Good luck!

Regards,
Jim

That would use EDO SODIMMs, probably, or else some proprietary memory card like a lot of older lappys use. I just paid $137 for a 64MB stick for an older ThinkPad. Compared to about $70 for SDRAM SODIMM.
