I am new to Anandtech but am very inpressed with the advice I have seen over the last month so I thought this would be the place to get help.

I recently ordered 256MG of Micron CAS-2 memory from Coast to Coast Memory. What I recieved was some generic stuff instead. At first they told me there was no way I could have ordered Micron rom them because they claimed they hadn't had any in stock for over 6 weeks, so I got angry and asked for a RMA. A few days later I called to confim RMA and this time talked to Tech guy. He claimed that there must have been shipping error and said they did have the micron and he would send me the right memory when he received my return.

I don't particularly trust these guys at the moment and I would like to know how I can Identify the Micron CAS-2 memory to make sure I get what I paid for this time. Is there a part # or some other ironclad way to verify I receive the right memory?

Thanks in advance.

NEW ADVICE NEEDED!
Got second stick of memory from Coast to Coast. Same generic junk as first time. Called and talked to sales MANAGER, he said there was no notation on original order stating Micron required (their error, I verified 3X with salesman it was Micron CAS-2). Said he could only refund or charge me current cost ($325, $55 more than I already paid) for Micron CAS-2, says best he can do. So I get screwed for month delay and rising prices?

DoI have any recourse?
WHAT SHOULD I DO!

little "m" bit, long "T" to start off the chip markings... hte cas 2 stuff should have a "7E" at the end of each chip. i'd tell you more, but i'm burning cd's and cant' pull my ram out at this time.

Since we're on the subject of identifying Micron memory, could any of you help me identify this? (A link would be even better)

Markings on chips:

9934 2-2
MT 48LC8M8A2
TG -8E E

How much did you pay for your RAM? I would usually get them at Crucial since they have very good prices. The place where you bought your memory might have Micron chips on some generic PCB, and does PCB does make a difference.

I've purchased in the past from Coast to Coast Memory and have had no problems. I thought they were pretty reputable. They are usually at all of the computer shows in my area. I think they will make it right for you.

But, I would do the same thing that you are regarding positive identification of the RAM. Once you get it and can post the pertinent info, I am sure someone will be able to ID it for you.

Payed $277 to the door, but I still don't have the right memory. Lowest price I could find elsewhere using Pricewatch and calling the vendors was $299 w/o shipping, but this was on June 16.

Why don't you get 2 x 128MB PC133 Cas2 stick direct from Crucial? ~$280 plus shipping, less if you play your cards right. Pretty sure you wouldn't have to worry about getting generic stuff. Nothing like Micron ram on a Micron PCB with a big fat CRUCIAL TECHNOLOGY sticker pasted on it.
