Where and how do you get a Security Clearance, I see lots of IT jobs that require one.

Most of the time the company will get it for you.

AFAIK you can't just do it yourself, join the navy and you will get at least a classified;)

the main thing when you apply for a job like that is be sure you don't have anything that will prevent you from getting it, like a felony conviction or being an illegal alien or bad stuff like that

You can only get one if you work for a company/organization that works on defense contracts and there is a need for you to have one.

seriously dood, don't post / say crap like that when trying to obtain security clearence, it will prevent you from getting it. its really not a laughing matter, and if you treat it like a joke, it will get taken away / not granted in the first place.

I've always heard that they're expensive and time consuming to get so you'll have to find an employer willing to help you get it.

I've wondered though do they like check out your personal background, or just legal stuff like felon, nut case, etc :)

if your job requires one, then your employer will pay for it.

one key thing is: TELL THE TRUTH. if you lie about anything (drugs, legal problems, financial issues, etc.) & they find out, then you won't easily get the clearance & will probably lose it if you do get it (and get fired).

even a felony conviction doesn't automatically stop you from getting a clearance if you've been rehabilitated, but lying isn't easily forgiven.

I'm just interested in what the typical questions they might ask you are. :) I've been to a few interviews where I would have to get one but was never hired for any of them so I'haven't had to go through it yet.

getting your secret security classificatoin isnt as bad as say Top secret, top secret is a bitch and can take upwards of 6 months to go through.

being eligable or previously holding a top secret clearance is very valuable to alot of organizations.
