We are also thinking of switching from Dish Network to Directv, especially since Directv is in a joint-agreement with Verizon FIOS. Haven't really looked into it, but it seems like you can get Directv and switch to FIOS when it comes out? Any information?

Thats a great question...I live in a rural area and I'm sure it will be a long time before it comes here but I'm sure your not the only one who is curious about that...

the two mains forums for satellite are satelliteguys.us & dbstalk.com from what i remember. you should be able to find out if there are any good deals to ask for there. i think directv has a good aaa deal that can be combined with some other deal.

I prefer http://www.dbstalk.com/ for satellite info, so that's what I'll link.:p

I know Verizon is a reseller for Directv, but when you sign up, you will be under a 2 year agreement with Directv. I doubt Dtv will just let you go, but I'd call Verizon to be sure.

My parents just switched from DirecTV to Dish. Storm came through and destroyed the dish (blew down the TV antenna it was attached to) and DirecTV was going to charge them for a new dish plus the installation fees as well as contract renewal and a bunch of other garbage. After they called back to cancel saying they were switching to Dish Network they changed their tune and said had they been told it was due to a storm they would have replaced everything for free. Funny thing is that they made a big deal about it being destroyed by a storm, spoke to a manager and had it noted in the account.

Big companies dont care about you either way until they are about to lose a source of their income. Most of the time they don't care then either.

In regards to whoever asked about the DirecTV/FiOS agreement. AFAIK, signing up with just DirecTV and getting it in the package from Verizon are two totally different things. I'm guessing this is how it works: Existing DirecTV customers who want to sign up for the FiOS package have to enter a brand new 2 year contract, but no penalties are given for starting the new contract because one would be an existing customer. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
