Need Info on Catalina Island at So. Cal

I am planning to go to Catalina Island for vacation.
After looking at various websites. They mention that Catalina island
has 2 harbors : Avalon and Two Harbors.
My question are:
1. Which of these 2 location (Avalon vs. Two Harbors) are more popular?
2. Any nice hotel that's not too expensive that you can recommend?

Avalon is the better Harbor IMHO. It has a fancy hotel right by the shore. I'm not sure about the price though.

i very highly reccomend going camping there, i went camping all over california and by far my camping trip at catilina was the most fun i ever had. Incredibly beautiful at night , the stars are so bright you could read a book, and across the ocean you can see All of longbeach and LA lit up. Cherry cove is where we were, and you can hike up to several platueas (not hard hikes at all) and bed there. Incredible experience.

Avalon is the more popular landing (pretty expensive I hear.) As for accomodations, we sorta roughed it when we visited, but it was awesome! Slept under a small shelter (no walls, just cots protected from rain.) We were mere STEPS away from the beach. I am almost surprised I didnt get wet from the spray of the tide coming in, and it was amazing to hear the waves crashing when I fell asleep. Anyways, you might consider trying to get a campsite.

If you go, go tomorrow because tomorrow the guitar company Fender will have thier annual Fender Blues Festival on Catalina and I hear alot of great bands will be there.

Yes a weekend should be enough time.

We used to fly there and hop on the shuttle to Avalon from the airport for the day.Avalon is the big tourist town with a nice beach.Twin Harbors is more remote with just a general store and a post office.You will have a great time there.Check the visitors center in Avalon for more info.

if your adveturous go night diving, just get your snorkel equipment and someunderwater flash lights and glowstick, its one of the most amazing things ive ever done (not for the weakhearted) its preety safe but be prepared to see a lot of big fish. 2 days is plenty i think. have fun!
