Need info on AMD chips.

Hello all. For the past year, I had stepped away from computer hardware. Now I am looking into getting a new CPU to replace a tbird that I have. If I have this correctly, the t'bred chips are newer than the palominos. Is this correct? Are any of the newer chips unlocked from the factory?

TIA

Yes, the Tbreds are the newest chip out now. As far as I know (I don't have one myself), all Tbreds are factory unlocked.

for the higher tbreds, they are unlocked 12.5x and up
for the lower tbreds, they are unlocked 12.5x and down (1700+ and 1800+)

To enable the LO bit for the higher tbreds, you need to connect the last L3 bridge. Doing so will unlock 12.5x and below.

this is where it gets tricky. some Nforce2 boards and kt400 boards will unlock all mults without any physical alterations lol.
when you decide on a mobo, reasearch/ask here whether it unlocks all mults or not and with which bios (a7n8x i believe doesnt unlock with presently available bios, but with the unreleased bios [i think it still is unreleased to the public...] it will unlock all mults)

Champ, what do you know about the 8RDA and 8K3A?
I have both of those (going to test the 8RDA with a tbred a 1700, and I am going to buy a tbred b 1800 when it comes out and put that in my 8k3a).

It will if you have an earlier BIOS (1001.c and 1001.e are the ones I have heard work so far, 1001.g does not)
