Hi do those monitor screens really work ??? I am a programmer and spend a LOT of time infront of a monitor.. After few hours my eyes get tired etc .. I saw on pricewatch.com monitor screens that not only reduce the glare, but also claim to stop ELF/VLF E-field radiation .. Do they REALLY work, and will allow me to spend EVEN MORE time without getting my eyes tired ???

Also are LCD easier on your Eyes then CRTs ???

Right now , I am using 19" IBM P92 monitor.. I always use High res at 100hz refresh rate .......

Any info would be good..

I think a high quality LCD display is easier on the eyes. Has for the screen blocking our radiation, it is possible that they do.

I have had a Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 91 19" (with Diamondtron NF tube) monitor for 1 1/2 years and it is so easy on the eyes. At 60hz or now, at my current 85hz refresh rate, it does not tire my eyes like the ones at work. I once had a job that would almost leave my eyes in tears every day. CRT is better for color accuracy, but LCD is better on the eyes and is getting better all the time. I always prayed for a monitor like the one I have at home. Never got it! :)

Marketing hype aside - only one monitor type has ZERO radiation - LCD!

That's just not possible. Any accelerating charge emits radiation and an LCD certainly has some accelerating charges since it uses electricty. Plus, I don't think they ever proved a correlation between monitor radiation and adverse health effects. And all modern monitors have greatly reduced radiation anyway. There are all those TCO and other radiation standards out also.

I'd worry more about your eyes than about radiation.

Radiation shielding = marketing hype.

It will do nothing to prevent eye fatigue.

Instead, look at the lighting and placement of your monitor. Try bumping up your refresh rates to as high as they will go. If you're in the market to replace your CRT, I would highly recommend going with a good LCD display.

Good luck!

IMO, it depends on the LCD and CRT. I've found that low brightness is what really messes up my eyes. It actually has to be set higher than I think it should be for it not to cause problems with my eyes. In my experience LCD's tend to be dimmer and thus cause more problems (mostly older ones, newer ones are fine). I recommend you try increasing the brightness and see if it helps.

I have a monitor somewhere around here that says it conforms to some radiation standard set in 1968! :Q

As for EMI radiation you get more exposure from sleeping by your clock radio than you do from your monitor. Well, I do, but then I don't wake up easily so it's right by my head.

Bump up the refresh rate and adjust the brightness/contrast for tired eyes. Also force yourself to blink more than normal, least that's what they say to help fight eyestrain.

Personally I like a dim monitor to avoid eyestrain, but I have a fairly dark room. Whatever works for you.

That reminds me of something funny... It took me 6 months to realize the thing interfering with my monitor was my clock which I had sitting on top of it. :D

Holy poo.. I cant beleive it made such a BIG difference in how my eyes feel when looking at the monitor. I havent bothered touching refresh rates in years since I dont play video games anymore (since the DOOM days anyway), and I've noticed my eyes have been tiring more and more lately.. especially with my current setup. I have 2 17" PS775 Viewsonics side-by-side with my Matrox G550 and my eyes were really getting worn.

I went ahead and bumped up my refresh rate to 85 and the screen just appears much more fluid. This forum r0x0rz. :)
