Need idiots guide to transferring favorites & docs

My first experience with Vista and I'm growing a tad bit frustrated. Here's the deal: Motherboard in old (XP Media Center) computer died, old hardrive (SATA) is fine. New computer is Vista Premium.

I can physically install the old hard drive in the new computer. Using windows explorer I've tried to physically copy My Docs and My Favorites to the new C drive, but I keep getting user permission and access denied. How do I go about doing this?

Unfortunately I can't use Windows Easy Transfer as I have only one working computer that will take SATA drives.

You are contradicting yourself here.
Explain!

Edit:
You can initiate an easy transfer.
When it asks you how you want to transfer the files, say through the network.
Select a folder on the drive connected to the old computer and save the image there.

Then, connect the drive to the new computer.
Start easy transfer again.
This time, select continuing a transfer.
It asks you to locate the image. Browse to where you saved the image.

Navid: I think you misunderstand. I have two computers with motherboards that handle SATA, one of the computers (motherboard) is dead. The only way I can access a SATA drive is with the new computer. I have taken the hard drive out of the dead computer and attached it to SATA port 3 (2 is used by the new computer DVD burner) of the new computer. So I end up with two SATA drives in one computer. Only one computer can handle SATA, so easy transfer (and of course, any network connection) is out, right?

Johnnyblaze: I tried taking ownership, was able to take ownership of the My Documents folder from the old computer's HD, but could not take ownership of any of the subfolders or files thereunder.

I see!

Easy transfer will not work because you cannot boot to XP to start the transfer since the old motherboard is dead.
