Need ideas on what to make with an ostrich or emu egg

I won a bet with a friend and she is going to buy me either an ostrich or emu egg. I can't wait to try one, but have NO idea on what to make with it. I do not want to make a big omelette, nor a crapload of scrambled eggs, nor a giant sunnyside up egg.

So ATOT, what egg should I try the emu egg or ostrich egg? Also what should I make with said egg that is unique?

If it's a fertile egg, get an incubator & try to hatch the egg. They sell for about $50 (just the first price I found, but it sounded around the price I expected.)

Definitely saves money on gas... and if you get it a cool hat then it wouldn't be considered animal cruelty.

It would be freaking awesome to make a HUGE deviled egg with it! Then take a photo of how big it is!

How fun! If I knew where to buy one, I would do that.

And then scare the hell out of it while on the street and watch it try to bury its head in the concrete.

Make an omelette, but with other non-standard ingredients: yak cheese, buffalo sausage, water spinach, truffles, etc. ;)

Someone was giving away an emu near me, I thought about it, but just don't have the room.

I've heard that they make great pets. You could just let it roam the house...

<disclaimer> The only pet worse than an emu I could imagine is a ferret. I have been brutally attacked by emu's at petting farms in the past </disclaimer>

I think this is the best idea so far. You have to do something to show it's size. Another one is to do a soft boiled egg and serve it with toast soldiers.

Imagine this on a much grander scale.

Now I know why not. :)

Well there aren't exactly a lot of dishes you can make with an egg, and the ruled out the most common ones. I think the deviled egg one is the best so far, but barring that you could make cookies or something and just use one egg where it calls for 3. I mean what else can be made with just an egg?

Ostriches lay them. Crazy, I know. :p

You can buy them at Whole Foods, among other stores (farmers markets sometimes have them). They run $20 an egg from WF.

I don't entirely like the soft boiled idea, nor any runny egg deals.

Don't make an omelette or scrambled eggs. You could do that with a bunch of small eggs. Keep the yolk intact. You could do a big poached egg.
