I have tree's all around my house, and the only way I'm able to get signal is by putting up a pole at the other end of my yard. I curruently have a 6foot pole (2 inch galvinised pipe), but I need to point my dish to another bird and I don't get high enough signal.

I need a taller pole, I was thinking of using a ten foot 3" PVC pipe and stick about two feet in the ground in cement.

Do you guys think the PVC pipe will be durable enough? Anyone have anyother idea's?

Thanks.

PVC will flex too much. I dont know what else you would use though unless you went for that thick pvc pipe--the 6 inch diameter stuff..

Is 2 feet more really going to cut it? I don't think PVC pipe is your best answer. It bends and while I haven't tested it, I wouldn't be suprised if it moved around quite a bit in the wind potentially, messing with your signal. Not to mention a PVC pipe looks like crap. I'd say get the longest 3" galvanized pipe you can get your hands on.

Besides, your in Canuck land and you need something to go into the ground at least 4 to 5 feet to get below the frost line for stability.

well if you really want dish, you're gonna have to cut down a tree or take some limbs off of it, or mount the dish on your roof.

I'm currently getting 55% signal right now. So two feet more will hopefully get it up another 10-20%. So I'm guessing.

The galvanised pipe I have now really moves in hte wind, strangely enough the single stays the around the same. (but 50% signal is to low, its always cutting off).

I've bought galvanised pipe in 20 foot lengths (to put up an OTA antenna). Just buy the length you need, sink one end in concrete below the frost line, and add the dish to the top. I actually just drove a larger pipe into the ground and left about a foot above ground then placed the 20 foot pipe into it. Some of those trees may come in handy. You may need to guy wire the dish if the movement becomes to severe.

When you put it up, make sure you have TV nearby so that you don't have to walk back and forth or yell to someone when adjusting it.

Called the hardware store and its $3.21 CND a foot for a 3" steel galvinised pipe, so i'm gonna go with that. Now what length?

My current pipe is 8feet not 6.

Heres my problem, I need to get the 110 and 119 bird. I have no problems getting the 110bird and i have a great signal, but the 119 bird i can only get when I use a 24" dish at 50% signal. I can't find it at all using my dish500.

So do you think putting the dish up another 4 feet would do the trick?

If you're worried about the dish shifting in the wind, use three poles in a tripod. Don't weld them (galvanized pipe + torch = you in the ER). Hope that it works out.
