I'm going to be purchasing a tv tomorrow (27") I need a way to haul it home. I don't have any friends here who have trucks. It won't fit in the back of my car (unfortunately because I need to keep it in the box to make it easier to haul up to my apartment). I'm trying to find the cheapest way to get it home. Any ideas? Uhaul has a cargo van I can rent and it's $19.99/day + $10 insurance. Are there any other alternatives?

Drag it behind the car.

J/K

Why not unbox it, fold the box and retape it and put it back in again?

Why don't you take it out of the box at store, break down box and put it back together when you get home? A 27 inch TV should fit in most cars (assuming you don't have a 2 seater or something).

I thought about that but I had alot of trouble getting the panasonic 27" (75lbs) out of the backseat. The new tv will probably be 100+ lbs and I'm afraid i'd drop it. At least with the box, it'll be easier to move.

Home Depot rents trucks. They might be cheaper than U-Haul, since I believe you can rent them by the hour. Plus, U-Haul rents wrecks.

You can easily transport a 27" TV in a small sedan. I've moved my Wega in the back of a Ford Aspire.

The method is thus:

1) Open both rear doors
2) Two people pick up the TV
3) One person steps backwards into the vehicle, glass towards the seat
3) The person in the car slides all the way through, bringing the TV with him
4) Center it on the seat, fasten it in, & close the doors.

Very easy, perfectly safe.

And you don't need a box to transport a 27" TV.

Do you have any trunk space at all? If you can get most of the box in the back of the trunk, you can tie it down with a bunch of string. As long as it doesn't fall out when you pull out, you'll be fine.

I just might end up doing that as well. I suppose renting a pickup truck from a rental company wouldn't be cheap.

hehe I'm afraid it will tip out the back. The road back to my apartment is under construction and it's pot holed to death right now.
