Need Ideas on Fixing a messed up Paint Job

About three months ago I purchased a used chieftec case from a local shop. The price was right and they tossed in for nothing Pioneer DVD-ROM, LiteOnm CDRW and a floppy drive, reason: really f'd up paint jobs. I could care less about the floppy, not worth fixing, but the DVD and CDRW are good brands, and I would like to clean them up and paint them again.

Here's a pic of the crappy paint job

Now... my question is: How do I remove the paint so I can repaint without messing up the plastic. Will paint removers damage the plastic? Has anyone done this before. Should I just scrap them?

i've stripped paint from old plastic models that i did as a kid, and paint thinner didn't damage the plastic. i think you'll be safe, as long as you aren't using a really strong solvent like goo gone, or something.

Try doing a search for replacement faceplates from the maker of the drives, if you can.

Would be easier than painting, and maybe even cheaper.

yes and no..yes in that they can and will seep into the plastic(which is porous) and will cause adhesion troubles..peeling/bubbling..

I'd suggest snding...more tedious but more controllable..as far as ..grit/paper and such...just like doing automotive..google s always a friend...try ..here and ..this is nice..

model plastic is most likely ABS..which is a more harder surfaced plastic..pc case plastic(the majority) is a softer plastic and porous...
