Need Ideas for where to apply for work...

Hey, so I am having trouble figuring out other companies to apply to for next summer. I am entering my last three semesters @ university (BS Comp. Sci. minor in Robotics), and I am having an issue that there are only two companies I'd like to work for next summer:

Microsoft and Bosch. I have strong contacts at both, but I know Bosch isn't hiring right now... so that poses a slight problem. I can't exactly have only one desireable place to apply for a job.

I'm afraid my projects and prior work experience are in some respects pigeonholing me.

Right now I am working on a voice-activated navigation system that plays off my prior voice-activated music selection system. I am very interested in telematics and speech recognition.

Other companies I have considered:
BMW, Ford, GM, DaimlerChrysler: none of them will give me time of day... had an interview with the GM research group last semester, and they took a grad student over me 🙁

Nuance, Speechworks, Conversay, Fonix: none of them give me more than time of day and lipservice.

Apple: had interview with them last year, they chose to re-hire the prior year's intern in speech there.

My recent prior work experience (most recent to oldest) includes:

a professor's startup: Working on a software program to help people speak better english by using a speech recognizer.

IBM: Worked on a wireless content delivery server which I pitched to them -- I had the opportunity to go back there again this summer, but the project I wanted to do was cut at the last minute. so I took the job above.

iSpheres: a Caltech professor's startup; worked on their data aggregation software (Java & XML stuff)

Anybody have any other ideas on where to consider working? Thanks!
