For my son - he's rejected every idea my wife and I have thought of for him. Apparently, we're too old to have good ideas.

College public speaking class, needs a 7 minute demonstration speech. Suggestions, please. (I figured that so many of you are of around that age or a little older, that many of you may remember some of the better demonstration speeches.)

Not sure about college, but in high school speech class people did simple things like how to cook an omelet, how to set a vcr, etc.

A demo on how to reject your parents ideas?

I'll assume props are allowed.

Does he golf?

Give a 7-minute demo on how to hold a club, grip, and then swing a club.

Does he bike?

Give a 7-minute speech on how to change a flat tire on a bicycle.

And it wouldn't be ATOT if I did not suggest how to rack a line of coke on a strippers ass and snort it off.

Wait, you're the farmer/teacher dude right with the goats? I think remember you had a thread about a goat or something with a prolapsed rectum. He can teach the class how to fix that!

If not, then I don't know what the hell I was thinking.

back when i took a similar class i did a speech/demonstration on how to cook a hamburger. assuming it is based on presentation rather than content, it should be a slam dunk

Does he have any hobbies? Just tell him to pick his favorite hobby. That's usually the easiest topic since you already know it well.

EDIT: Some examples from a TA class I had to take (taken from various students):

* Homebrew (ingredients, recipes, styles of beer)
* Ping pong (rules, tactics, grips)
* Mock trial (purpose, rules, structure, tactics)
* Boring technical stuff (research topics, should probably avoid this)

I did a how-to speech on changing guitar strings in high school. Did another how-to speech on how to install a pickup in an electric guitar in college. Did another how-to speech on how to install and configure Coppermine on a default installation of Fedora Core... umm... 4 I believe it was?

Sports or martial arts stuff for those are common, sometimes how to make certain things as well.
Really it can be just about anything as long as the time requirement is met.

Is he allowed to use video? I was thinking something like how to jumpstart a car or change the tires (or some simple car repair, maybe oil?). However, I doubt he would be able to bring a car in to demonstrate with, so this only works if he can take video of him doing it.

He actually listened to one of our suggestions: how to make counterfeit designer t-shirts. It was a wonderful day when he realized he could make identical shirts to what he had been purchasing for $25 each for only $4 or $5.

How to repair a leaky faucet valve in the kitchen, bathroom, or shower. Prevent an expensive visit from a plumber.

how the world will end: 7 ways to apocalypse. :)
I don't know why that made me think of this: "My guide to 4chan memes: It's awwwright."

Incidentally, would it upset you terribly if your son were never again permitted on campus property?

How to become president of the united states by stealing an election, lie the country into a needless war, ruin the economy, set back social progress decades, and emerge unscathed? Ooops wrong forum I guess ;)

You may have suggested this, but how about the rapid ways of how information is passed around, moving away from the PC to other devices...
