Need Hollow Wood Dowels, Possibly Bamboo If That Is All There Is...

Need the hollow space inside to be approximately 2.5 centimeters across. I have done several searches using Google, but have had no luck, probably because there is a term for stuff like this that I do not know. If anyone knows an online store selling stuff like this, please point me to it. Thanks.

No, we had a HobbyCraft City but it closed several years ago. I will check online hobby stores, though, and see what I can find, now that I have some point of reference.

Got access to a wood lathe? Make 'em yourself. I've never heard of hollow ones, but it wouldn't be hard to punch a hole through them on a lathe. How many do you need?

Well, if he only needs a couple, I'd do it with a hand drill! A 3/32" drill would poke through in a flash!

How long does it need to be, does it matter? Because bamboo isn't really completely hollow..

For those who can't add / multiply 2.5 cm = about 1 inch. a 3/32" hole won't work

At an inch it will be hard to drill that without some kind of guide. you may be able to do it on a drill press, but most have less than a 5" throw. that would give ya a 10" piece.

Can you make due with steel? That would be much easier.

Yeah, that's a serious hole there! And it seems like wood would get kind of weak with big hole like that through it. How large of an O.D. would it be?

Edit: Good point about changing material, Evadman. How about PVC instead?

if it has to be wood, and you can use something thin, it might be easiest to bend a real thin sheet around something using steam.

Well Bamboo is not hollow but can be cleaned out on the inside but it is also tapered. How big on the outside?? I also would be thinking PVC if it has to look like wood get some of that really thin wood they sell for inlay"s and wrap it.

Problem is, I need to use a woodburner on it, so the inlay would have to be thick enough for that. I will check into it and see what is available, we just had Home Depot open a store up here.

Lengths need to be approximately six and eight inches in length, for those using the English measurement system. Thickness of the walls of the tube would be approximately a quarter of an inch, and structural strength is not a major requirement.

I must say, I am amazed at the curiousity my little craft project has aroused. :Q

It needs to be hollow because it is going to contain something, and wood because a woodburner does not work especially well on metal or PVC pipe. I bumped it before heading off to work, then never got back to it until today. The boss is out of town, which means lots of overtime.
