Need High quality 27-30" monitor for photo editing

Wife needs to get one, and she made enough money last year that we can use it to offset her business income. But the cheap bastard in me is upset at the high prices of the good monitors these days. Any recommendations?

Any of the big players will do; HP, Dell etc. The 'real' top monitors for photo editing are prohibitively expensive, at least for me, not sure of your budget. I believe you're talking $10,000 for a good Eizo/NEC.

Dell has a boxing week sale on now. The U3011 is $400 off right now and costs $999 and the U2711 is $300 off and is going for $699. Those are pretty great deals imo.

Sho only made $3800 last year. I would prefer to get her the dell first, and if she gets good enough to need the $10,000 monitor down the road I'll probably get the dell for gaming.

u3011 is probably your best bet without going overboard on price if you need the full adobe color gamut. However, make sure you calibrate it.

Yeah I'm in Canada. Sorry forgot that it was not available in the US :/ Seems strange to me they are not mirroring the sale... or not.. I forget sometimes that there is no boxing day/week in the US.

I really think you should have gone with the 30", specifically the Dell. I have the older 3007WFPs and they are what I use for video and photo. I don't game much but when I do they're also nice, although my video card atm lacks power to properly drive them for gaming.

The 30" can be had for less if you wait for the coupon and discount from Dell. I believe the low for it this year (2012) was $899, or maybe $799. I was tempted but already had my two 3007WFPs.

Not sure if you bought already, but are you using this in a brightly lit business environment? If so, the u2711 is a good choice. If she's doing her business related work out of the home, the 2713H should be a better choice and with a similar cost. I think the u2711 is a great monitor but the heavy matte does become noticeable in dimly lit (home) environments.

edit: wow. 2713H is priced at 999$. The 2713HM would be in the 700$ price range, but doesn't support the full adobe color gamut.

NEC 27 inch is available in US for about $900 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...idescreen.html). I have the one with SpectraView. It produces amazingly good natural color. Read the review of the link. Many seems to be satisfied with this monitor for photo editing. I think that this is the best fit for your purpose.
