Maybe you all can help me. I'm not too sure.

Is the Athlon Thunderbird core basically the same as the original K7 core (slotA)? I'm wondering if I can substitute a Thunderbird processor in a MB made for an original Athlon K7, slot A of course?

Depends on the mobo. The via kx133 chipset will not work with the Thunderbird over 800 megahurtz. There are a few boards out there that may work fine, but I don't remember which ones. Look in pricewatch under mobos and amd 751 chipset. There are a few slot a boards listed.

The MB is an ASUS K7V, KX133 chipset.
