I build a system at home, shipped it.. and when I got it at school the thing was broken. The slocket fell out, banged around, and everything was a mess... THANKS UPS!!!!... I decided to fix the thing.... The problem I am having is that when I plug my monitor (Samsung 19" 955df) into my vid card (GeForce2 GTS) the thing just blinks(monitor)... ???? Like my comp boots (at least I think it boots... it make those startup sounds), but no beeps or anything. The fan on the GTS spins, so I have power to the thing.... Anyone have any suggestions?????

Is it a mobo issue?? or is it my vid card?? any easy way to find out. I know i should plug in spare parts.... but thats difficult considering I dont have any .... any suggestions??? please.

Thanks

well, you only really need 4 or 5 things to get a system to post. the motherboard has to be functional, the processor has to be seated correctly, ram has to be installed properly, of course you need power, and you need video. i would check the video card. see if anyone around has a video card you can pop in and check quickly.

I know you've probably tried this, but it never hurts to do it again. Unplug everything and then reassemble the entire computer.

Also, if you have another computer handy, check the monitor to make sure it still works.

If the video card was actually bad, you should get a long beep and then 2-3 short beeps.

I basically reassembled the computer. Pluged in everything, then took stuff that i didnt need out. LIke the dvd, cd-rw, zip, only put 1 stick of 128, took out the sound card, and ethernet.. Only pluged in the bare essentials. But the thing still doenst work. Its not the monitor cuz i tried it on another monitor and i get the same problem..... I think its either the vid card or the motherboard..... I dont get any beeps at all. none...

Thanks

Take out the video card and then reboot. If the motherboard is working, you should get the beeps.

Also, in the reassembly did you remove the motherboard from the case? I'd try that too. Take it out, then put it back in..

K, tried taking out the vid card and rebooting... basically the same thing happened.... no sounds, no beeps.... .. so from what it sounds like does it seem resonable that I need a new mobo?? Any suggestions?? Thanks
