My question is. Can i take perfectly fine hardware from my current comp and use it to build a new one?

Current specs:

Abit KV8 pro MOBO, AMD athlon 3000+ 2.4 ghz proccesor, 1.5gigs of ram, 60 gig HD, radeon 9800 pro GC. i want to scrap my MOBO and processor, must likely my graphics card and ram aswell so can i use my HD and case if i make a new comp?

i was thing this MOBO and processor? Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe Green nVIDIA Socket Am2 ATX Motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ 3.0 GHz Processor

You can use the case, but the power supply is probably 20-pin and not powerful enough to run a modern graphics card.

You can use the 60GB drive, but it's probably only half as fast as a brand-new $100, 640GB SATA drive or $45/160GB. It's also IDE / PATA while many motherboards only include 1 IDE port for your DVD drive.

So: you need to replace everything except possibly the bare case, DVD drive, and 60 GB HD. Don't throw away the old parts, you can make a little selling them in the FS/FT forum. Keep the HD or be sure to wipe it clean with DBAN (Disk Boot and Nuke) before selling.

Great points, you could also keep the old PC to use for word processing or checking emails. You could also donate the PC to an organization and obtain a receipt, come tax time it is a good deduct.

Good luck
