Hey everyone, my computer has been freaking out...I can't get it started. When I turn it on it will start booting for about 4 seconds and then reset. If I let it, this will go on indefinately. Additionally, I don't push the power switch to turn it on...as soon as it is plugged in it starts trying to boot.

I tried unplugging the power switch from the motherboard, but the computer still powers on by itself as soon as it is plugged in, with the resets about every 3 or 4 seconds.

The computer is an Athlon (Barton) 2500+, not currently overclocked. Motherboard Asus A7N8X Deluxe. Antec Neo 480W power supply. Thanks for any help!

Is there anyway that it could be something with the motherboard, or are you pretty confident that it is the PSU. Only reason I ask is that the motherboard is 2+ years old while the PSU is much newer.

Unplug all the accessories first, like all add in cards, extra optical drives like cd roms, net work cards, sound cards. Just leave one stick of ram, video card, hdd, cd rom and then try again. If the system boots it could be a psu or mobo problem. Now try installing (power down and re-start after each installation) the peripherals one at a time until the problem shows up again. If the problem comes back when you install an add in card, try using different slots and try again. If the problem persists even after trying different slots, then the PSU could be faulty. If the problem goes away when using different slots, then mobo has faulty slots. If it doesn't boot, dismount the mobo from the case (everything still connected except place the mobo on top of a cardboard or box) and try booting again. If the sysem boots, there is a problem in the mounting of the mobo. If the system still does not boot, you might want to try another PSU. Even a regular 300W PSU should boot a barely configured sysem. If it still does not boot, get a new mobo.
