Need Help

just bought a new hard drive to back up my music collection, but i am finding that whenever i play a wave file there is a slight hesitation between five and ten seconds into the song. this happening on both my hard drives (old one is wd 120 gb 8mb cache and the new one just installed through a pci controller card is wd 200 gb 8mb cache). i did notice some hesitation prior to installing the new drive with some music, but it seemed that it happened only when i was stressing the system. now, it happens evertime i start playing the file, and is exaggerated whenever anything else is going on in the background. i have tried different programs using the different hard drives, but same thing happens. i know it is definitely not a file issue since i can restart the file once it has played a bit and goes smoothly over the hesitation spot from previous. it seems it is a problem with continuity of data, but i have no idea where to start. please, any help would be appreciated.

thanks
