Need help. XBOX or PS2

Hey guys can everyone please chime in on this...

I am looking for a DVD player possibly and the thought of getting a DVD player that also plays video games is nice hence xbox or ps2...


Now ive played ps2 before and the game choices are kinda blah right now however GT4 is coming out soon and i love that entire series.


I know both can be modded, and im willing to do this. Is 1 system easier to mod than the other?


About the online services is the ps2 online free?

I know for a fact that you need to pay for XBOX live.

Which online service is better? And why?

Post which one you think i should get and why.

stick with the xbox - excellent mod capability and great game selection. it also has the features youre looking for.

(the only reason i would get ps2 is for the ff series and gran tourismo series)

Agreed, if you want online gaming get a xbox too 😀 Xbox modded can do so many things, complete multimedia center and gaming machine.
 
I have both and I use my xbox more... but not for games instead for multimedia like anime, tv, and music. Imo the ps2 has better games and the xbox has better graphics + multimedia center capabilities + emulation. Hands down the ps2 is harder to mod, if you are going to get a ps2 and want it modded get either a premodded one or have someone professionally mod it for you.

For watching backed up dvds I find the ps2 more compatible but I like the xbox interface better. I have problems playing backed up dvd+rs on my xbox where the original disc would work fine, but my ps2 seems to play anything I throw at it.
 
I find the PS2's dvd player to be of higher output quality (i.e. visuals). I would go so far as to say that dvds look substantially better on the PS2 compared to the Xbox. You can, however, do many things with a modded Xbox, but if you're just looking for a DVD and game playing machine (and don't want to PIRATE) then I'd get the PS2. Especially since you enjoy Gran Turismo.

(Yes, I do own both systems and have compared them side by side).
 
I'll say that Xbox FWD for DVDs is much better than PS2. PS2 has one or two speeds - I can't quite remember. Xbox has multiple speeds, as high as 32X. I'm not just being petty either - this is really a nice feature, and I say it after starting with a PS2 and graduating to an Xbox.
 
i disagree, I think that the PS2 has better games. This is coming from someone who has both a PS2 and a modded Xbox. I could see myself playing a bunch of PS2 games and only a handful of Xbox games. However, with that said I would still mod an Xbox due to its potential. Add a hard drive and you can run Xboxmedia center, emulators, etc, etc. I am waiting for the PS2 mod scene to heat up with the introduction of the hard drive, since Sony has already released a linux kit for the PS2 I think that the possibilities for the PS2 are similar to that of the Xbox.

Skoorbis totally correct in this regard, using the navigational controls on the PS2 for movie watching is a huge pain in the -ss. But my opinion about the visual quality stands. It's really up to your personal preference, and maybe the television. (I'm using a FD wega).
 
if i were you i'd get a seperate dvd player. you can get a pretty good one for around 40 bucks if you shop around, the stupid DVD remote for the XBOX costs at least 20. Anyway, gamewise the PS2 schools the XBOX right now if you are just interested in a ton of great games, but if you want online play go with the XBOX. I have all 3 of the newer consoles and every one gets its uses now and then. Recently been playing a lot of Xbox because Project Gotham Racing 2 on xbox live is great fun.
