Need HELP with Yamaha CD-RW

Hey guys, I just purchased a Yamaha 16x ide burner, and whenever Windows 98 tries to access it, I get vertical lines. The damn thing freezes. I can put my old CDROM back in and it works great. I even tried using a 300W power supply, but that didn't solve my problem. I am hoping someone can help me out with this one.
