I finally bought new parts to make a new system.

I have: xp2500+ non mobile
ASrock K7S41GX mobo
256mb pc3200 ram
geforce4 ti 4200
generic otehr parts/drives

I just recently installed win xp with a clean hd.

My issue: My processor is showing up as 1100 mhz (100x11.0) in the start up screen, and during futuremark benchmarks as well. I believe its running like that as well cause my hd has never been this clean, i used to have an old mobo with a thunderbird 1.2 underclocked to 1.1, 256 pc133 ram, and same everything else. Nothing has ever been overclocked, but now when i run 3dmark2003 my score is a little slower still than it was a year ago with the crap parts.

My question, how do I fix this exactly, i bet this isnt the first time its come up but still.... I have downloaded some driver app for winxp from amd's site, and ive checked asrock's site, the only other thing i can think of is to get the new bios from asrocks site, and go through all the steps there, but this seems a little complicated and dangerous as ive went the last 2 months with no comp at all, and I just want this thing to run like it was made to run.

P.S. I am also trying to have this machine run doom3, i dont think with 1172 3dmark2003 pts I will make it ;)

Thanks for any help,

Dustin

Go into bios and set your FSB speed to 166. That'll put it up to 2500+ speeds. I'm a little surprised the mobo didn't auto set it correctly.

You didn't mention the motherboard/chipset drivers - got those in and updated too?

EDIT: That mobo may have jumpers on it to change the FSB speed. Better have a look at your mobo manual.

Update to the latest BIOS and use the correct FSB and multiplier values for the Barton chip. That chip is severely underclocked at 1100mhz.

The default speed of the non-mobile 2500+ is 1.83Ghz, using a multiplier of 11.0x and FSB of 166 (11x166=1830).

alright im gonna try the bios update found on this page here:
http://www.asrock.com/support/index_BIOS_INS.htm

im a little worried about flash.exe and i dont even know if i could do the boot disk thing properly, but unless anyone has some tips for me, or thinks that I could maybe finally jack up the speed of my proc with a volcano9 running max on it and possbily my ti4200 thats at only stock speeds, and will any of this with my mobo only supporting ddr333mhz and bus i believe that i will benefit from any of these oc's?

(note, currently room is around 27celcius, cpuis around 43under normal load so far at 1100 mhz :()

any replies welcome,

Dustin

The motherboard may have a "safety" feature that can force a 100Mhz FSB. If changing the BIOS setting doesn't help, check your board for such jumpers.
