I'm fixing to buy new motherboard http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=29&threadid=1583615&enterthread=y

I currently have a win 2K pro installation disc, would like to go to xp but preferably not right now.

The way I understand, I could buy an OEM of XP home for @ $90 with the purchase of motherboard ($140 for XP pro). I don't really want to buy the XP right now but I do need the motherboard.

First, could I buy the mobo now, then later upgrade my cpu or harddrive and be able to buy the XP then?

Second, can someone explain the differences in OEM, system builder and retail?

Third, differences or recommendations between XP home and pro?

First:
yes

Second:
OEM - no support by MS, get hassled when upgrading components (though MS has always allowed reactivation)
System Builder - buy several OEM copies in one package
Retail - get product support from MS, do not get hassled over reactivation

Third:
XP Home is enough for 99% of people. Pro is seriously meant for large businesses, or for those paranoid & feel the need to password protect & encrypt everything.
