Being a grandparent I'd say the thought is the real biggie. My two self-absorbed grandkids have trouble sending a simple card.

Spend time with them. That would probably make their day. They usually don't need anything. Talk with them, let them tell you about their lives. Embrace your family and heritage! This is the perfect season for it too!

I bought my grandma (last remaining grandparent) a cellphone for christmas. Good idea if they're still mobile and driving around. The plan is worth it for me, cause I know she'll have it and be able to call someone if she gets in trouble. Plus her landline service is crap and goes out every time it rains.

Actually if you already have a plan, a lot of places let you add another user for like $10 a month. That's a pretty good deal, cause you know they won't use it a ton.

Grandparents love pictures of their family and grandkids... Some nice picture frame with a picture of the family is a nice idea...

Are they living on a fixed income? You might consider things like a year's subscription to their
favorite newspaper or paying their ISP bill for a few months if they have a computer, such things seem small to us but can make a big difference to them:)

Maybe some Viagra? :p

kidding of course. In all seriousness, I found, as others have stated, that many grandparents, and wise people, care more for the thought then the actual item. A well picked or made card. Make them dinner. Something that shows that they are on your mind more then the one day a year.

I think if you give it some thought, you'll have already succeeded in making them happy.

well, i got them a huge picture frame last year. They can't use anything high tech, they forget how to use it in 5 minutes. I go eat dinner with them every friday, so i spend a good amount of time with them. My grandpa is kinda hard of hearing, i got them these wireless headsets for the TV, that was great, i wanna try top that, but it will be hard....
